Making a Difference in Our World Last year, students in the IMPACT program took a small project and created big solutions. What began as a simple change drive grew into a full-fledged fundraising campaign. Our class brainstormed ways that we could help raise money for mosquito nets in Africa. As the student leadership team met together, we created a practical plan to turn the ideas into a reality. We sold t-shirts. We held a change drive in each class period. We created a video and posted it to myspace (the result was $150 in the first weekend). Most likely, we will do either a fund-raiser or a supply drive again. Also, we would like to create a project that involves true global collaboration. Students will work together with students from another country using e-mail and wikis.

WHY HELP OUR WORLD? In a globalized society, people from all nations are all connected through technology, corporations and the immigration process. Cross-cultural communication will be vital to all jobs in the future. That's why we want to participate in the global village - and not only participate, but make a positive impact. |
